Faculty Endowment Match Program

At Boise State University, we believe in the transformative power of education and the profound influence of visionary educators and researchers. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our groundbreaking initiative, the Boise State University Faculty Endowment Matching Program, a remarkable opportunity to amplify your philanthropic impact and support our outstanding faculty members.

The best faculty members bring energy and innovation into their work, spark curiosity in students, and discover, and push creativity across the university. Donors play a critical role in Boise State’s ability to attract and retain these educators, scientists and scholars. Every gift supporting endowed Boise State faculty positions has a ripple effect on the university and makes a powerful impact on students.

This matching program offers donors an incentive to support outstanding faculty – now and for generations to come.

Funded at $2 million ($400,000 per year for five years), the program is a component of a multi-year investment in Boise State faculty.

Relentless Faculty Innovation

Supporting Students Through Endowed Faculty Support

Duane and Lori ’59 Stueckle, the donors whose gifts endowed Oxford’s position, wanted to give the distinguished professor a reason to stay at Boise State. In 2005, after consulting with then-Boise State President Bob Kustra, the Stueckles knew Oxford was a highly sought-after researcher and instructor who would likely receive offers at other universities.

Duane described their gifts as “force multipliers” that encouraged an esteemed faculty member to remain at Boise State, contribute to research, encourage students and fellow researchers, and bring in tens of millions of dollars in grant money.

Since joining Boise State, Oxford has done just that. She has dozens of publications and awards to her name and has brought in more than $45 million in research grants to the university. She also directs the Biomolecular Research Center and helps young investigators pursue careers in the field.

“We kept Julie at Boise State and progressed in the field of biology research, which can have such an impact,” Stueckle said. “That alone justified it, and we hit the jackpot.”

Support of endowed positions strengthens the research, creative and professional portfolio at Boise State in a sustainable manner and facilitates growth in target areas.

Here’s how the Faculty Endowment Matching Program works.

Endowment funds are created by gifts where donors stipulate that the principal be maintained in perpetuity, and invested for the purpose of producing present and future income. The Boise State University Foundation prudently invests these gifts in order to generate a steady, reliable money flow that we call the payout.

The minimum gift for an endowed faculty support fund is $250,000. Those establishing endowed faculty support funds often schedule payments over five years. Typically, that means there is a lag between the time a donor makes their commitment and the time that the faculty member can fully begin making use of the payout for teaching, research, and other scholarly activities.

The Boise State University Faculty Endowment Matching Program will enhance the impact and speed the benefit your philanthropy provides to our faculty.

Imagine doubling the influence of your generous donation with a single stroke! Thanks to the Boise State University Faculty Endowment Matching Program, your support can now have twice the impact. Here’s how it works:

  1. Your Generosity: Your contribution toward an endowed faculty position is already substantial, and we’re deeply grateful for it. Your generosity paves the way for exceptional education, cutting-edge research, and a brighter future for our students.
  2. University’s Commitment: In a groundbreaking move, Boise State University has pledged to match the payout from your fund for five years, dollar for dollar! The impact of your donation will be immediately doubled, creating even greater resources for the endowed position.
  3. Inspiring Excellence: With your support and our matching contribution, we will be able to attract and retain the most exceptional faculty members, who will, in turn, inspire the next generation of leaders, innovators, and change-makers.

Professors and researchers will begin receiving this doubled payout following your first gift. The bigger your gift commitment, the larger the benefit to each supported faculty member.

The Impact of a Faculty Endowment

Faculty endowments are more than just titles; they are a commitment to nurturing talent, driving innovation, and shaping the future. When you support a faculty endowment at Boise State, you are:

  • Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders: Investing in education to create the thought leaders and visionaries of the future.
  • Advancing Research and Discovery: Fueling groundbreaking research in areas that matter most to you and the world.
  • Enhancing the Academic Community: Attracting world-class faculty members who mentor, inspire, and drive academic excellence.
  • Nurturing Student Success: Providing our students with the best possible educational experience and opportunities.
  • Making a Lasting Legacy: Cementing your name in the annals of Boise State as a champion of education and innovation.

Endowed faculty position funds (starting at $250,000 or more) that support faculty lecturers, scholars, fellows, professorships, or chairs are eligible for the match. Commitments may support existing endowed positions or create new ones. (See chart below for minimum funding levels). Endowments for staff positions and athletic coaching positions are not eligible for the match.

From July 1 through December 31, 2023, each of Boise State’s colleges and schools are eligible for at least one match as long as matching funds remain available. After January 1, 2024, matching funds will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Provost will review endowed positions proposed for matching funds to ensure alignment with Boise State’s strategic goals.

While matching funds provided by the program are traditionally used to benefit the endowed position, these expendable funds may also be used, with the Provost’s approval, at the dean’s/director’s discretion to advance Boise State’s strategic priorities.

Planned gifts are not eligible for the university’s match.
